Ep 10:Â The One Nobody Checks On

I am recording this episode from a hospital chair while my daughter is admitted for a blood clot and a PICC line infection, on day four of antibiotics and anticoagulants with no nutrition and at least four more days ahead of us. This is not the first time I have been here. My daughter has a chronic illness and caregiving has been woven into my life for years.
I'm also okay...not pretending to be okay, not one more thing away from completely falling apart okay, Â but actually okay. I also know without a shadow of a doubt that would not be true if I had not done the work I have done on my own nervous system.
This episode is for every woman who is the one who shows up, the one who holds everything together while quietly running out of herself to give, and the one nobody checks on. What caregiving does to a nervous system that has never had real support is not something that a bubble bath or a therapy session that validates how exhausted you are is going to touch. The answer is not more management strategies. The answer is getting to the root of the pattern that was running you long before the caregiving started.
In this episode I share what has kept me functional, present, and genuinely okay inside one of the hardest seasons of my life, what my own nervous system does when crisis hits now versus what it used to do, and what changed when I stopped fighting my body's survival response and started working with it instead. I also share Anne's story, a 45-year-old mom who became her mother's caregiver overnight and came to me three months in barely recognizable to herself, and what happened when we got to the root of what was actually running her.
